Dear FUSD Families,

September is a great time to check in on attendance and grades as students settle into the school year and become more connected to their classes, activities, and school community.

Regular attendance helps students stay on track academically, keep up with assignments, ask questions, and get support when they need it. As grade checks begin, families can take a few minutes to review attendance, grades, and missing work together.

Attendance and grades can also affect a student’s ability to participate in some of the activities they look forward to. Some athletics, extracurricular activities, dances, and other school events have attendance and/or academic eligibility requirements. Staying on top of attendance, grades, and missing work can help students stay ready for the opportunities they don’t want to miss.

But school is about more than what appears in the gradebook. The best parts of school aren’t always on the calendar. It might be a great class discussion, laughing with friends at lunch, connecting with a teacher, participating in a club or team, or an unexpected moment that becomes a favorite memory.

When students are at school, they have more opportunities to learn, connect, participate, and belong.

September Check-In

  • Check attendance and look for patterns

  • Review grades and missing assignments

  • Ask for help early when support is needed

  • Stay on track for activities and events with eligibility requirements

  • Stay connected with teachers, classmates, teams, clubs, and the school community

  • Keep showing up and building strong routines

If your student is experiencing a barrier that is making regular attendance difficult, please reach out to your school. We want to work with families to help every student stay connected and successful.

If your student will be absent, please remember to report the absence directly to your school’s attendance office or attendance hotline.
